FISHER HEADS TO MARYLAND PDRA EVENT WITH RENEWED EXCITEMENT Growing pains affect racers and teams at all levels in the exciting sport of drag racing and in 2015, Performance by Fisher Racing has had their fair share. After finally getting to debut their brand new 2015 American Race Cars Top Dragster in mid-May, sans any testing, the team felt a little behind in where they had hoped to be by that time of the season. The power plant for the new car is relatively the same Ohio Crankshaft 547ci BBC F2 ProCharger combination that the team had utilized over the previous three seasons with Kevin Fisher behind the wheel. Starting this season, Kevin has stepped out of the driver’s seat to concentrate more on the tuning and the crew chief side while Kathy Fisher has assumed double driving duties of both the new Armor Coat Ceramic Header Coating/Ohio Crankshaft/Borla/K&N car and the team’s K&N Filters/Borla Exhaust Super Comp ride. With only four times on the track over two different NHRA division events, the Lima, Ohio based team made the decision in late June to change their event schedule and take advantage of a PDRA event rather close to home in Martin, MI. The PDRA races offer a day of testing prior to the event and the Fisher’s knew this was exactly what they needed to get the new car, and driver, dialed in. “We just needed laps, testing,” Kathy explained. “It was very frustrating to not be able to get track time, either due to Mother Nature and/or our other commitments. There are only so many things you can test in the pit. Once we were able to get some back to back laps, we learned we have a very deadly consistent race car.” “The testing we were able to get in at US 131 was great,” Kevin added. “We weren’t trying to set the world on fire, just get the car down the track. She went out there and laid down back-to-back 4.050 passes. The 60 foot times in the car were so consistent, .972, .973 and .971. We finally knew we had a race car and something to build on.” The next event for the team would find them at the NHRA National event outside of Norwalk, Ohio. There, they were able to make their first full quarter- mile runs of the season posting a very respectable 6.264 along with some great eighth-mile 3.99 numbers and ultimately a number eleven qualifier spot for the very stout field. “There’s a lot more in this Armor Coat/Ohio Crankshaft ride,” Kevin pointed out. “But right now we are looking for repeatability and consistency. These are real close to the numbers we were looking for when we put this new car together.” The “Married With Dragsters” video stars have added the upcoming PDRA North-South Shootout to their schedule and look to continue the positive forward progress. The inaugural PDRA race at Maryland International Raceway takes place at the historically fast venue, July 15-18, just outside of Budds Creek, MD. “We really enjoyed our first experience competing at a PDRA event. We missed out on qualifying for it, but armed with the data that we have acquired since, we feel quite confident we will be out to play for this race at Budds Creek,” said Kathy. Many have asked Kevin about relinquishing the Top Dragster driver’s seat to his wife. “Look, she’s lighter than me, she’s had her TAD license for quite a few years and very capable of not only safely handling this car, but as we continue to get more laps, also give me the feedback from the driver’s seat that I need to do my job. I like being outside the car to really see and hear what it’s doing. Bottom line, we are a team and we try to make decisions based on what’s good for the team and all our partners.” “I can’t thank all our friends, many who are a big part of this car, enough for their unwavering support,” she added. “Bill Coomer and Greg Goubeaux at Armor Coat and Aesthetic Finishers, Stan and Scott Ray at Ohio Crankshaft, the wonderful team at Borla Exhaust along with the R&D department and great group of guys at K&N Engineering. I cannot forget Tom and Carl at Mickey Thompson, Tom “The Tool Man” Hirt, our local Snap-On Tools dealer, Mark and crew at American Race Cars, Marco at Abruzzi Racing Transmission and Converters, the great family at Moser Engineering, Scott and Thor at Moroso, Jay at Computech, the crew at QuickFuel, Mark at Flatout Gaskets, our new friends at Bazell Race Fuels/Sunoco, the gang at XS Power, Kevin at K&R Performance, Mark at House of Payne Performance, Pam and Debbie at Simpson Racing Products, and Earl and Don at Advertising Edge for always making us look good.” “When it comes down to it, these cars aren’t all about the parts and pieces, they are really about the people who make them happen, make them go and make our sport one to be very proud to be a part of,” she continued. “With that said, we are so fortunate to have met a ton of fabulous people along our racing journey and one of them needs our continued prayers for a full and quick recovery. We are racing this weekend for longtime friend and PDRA pit reporter, Brian Olson. We are going to miss him terribly this weekend. I’m going to do everything I can to bring home our first PDRA TD win for the gentleman that I am so honored to call my friend.“ Fans can watch all the action unfold for the Inaugural North-South Shootout PDRA event at MIR as it will be streamed live on Motor Mania TV1 and follow along on the team’s social media, including Facebook – PerformanceFisherRacing and MarriedWithDragsters
